BMW has launched the BMW X5 and BMW iX5 as standalone variants exclusively for the Chinese market, combining the brand’s design language with future-oriented technologies from the Neue Klasse. The most notable change is the extended wheelbase, which is 130 millimetres longer than global models, resulting in a total length of 3,165 mm. This modification enhances rear legroom and cabin comfort while maintaining the vehicle’s distinctive proportions and elegant side profile. The extended wheelbase also contributes to a more stable and refined driving experience, aligning with customer expectations in China.

The new models feature distinctive design elements, including striking diagonal light icons that can optionally be switched to a double-X design. Additional light strips between the light icons and the BMW kidney grille enhance the front-end’s depth effect, while dynamic welcome and goodbye animations are integrated into the lighting. The interior adopts a monochromatic colour concept with streamlined surfaces and refined decorative elements, creating a relaxed and luxurious ambience. Premium materials such as slate and glass are paired with advanced technologies, including a three-dimensional backlit accent strip with ambient lighting, to elevate the overall spatial experience.

Digital innovations are a key focus, with the new BMW Panoramic iDrive display featuring BMW Operating System X, a free-cut Central Display, and the BMW Passenger Screen available for the first time in the BMW X5. The next iteration of the BMW Theatre Screen delivers 8K streaming, gaming, and video call functionality to the rear compartment, catering to entertainment and mobile working needs. These features are specifically tailored to meet the expectations of Chinese customers, blending seamlessly with the vehicle’s relaxed interior ambience.

Both the BMW X5 and BMW iX5 maintain BMW’s hallmark driving pleasure, supported by adaptive two-axle air suspension as standard. The new generation of intelligent driver assistance systems combines decades of BMW’s experience with locally trained AI developed in partnership with Momenta, enabling navigation-guided 'Address-to-Address' driver assistance. The all-electric BMW iX5, featuring sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology, offers a range exceeding 1,000 km (CLTC). The combustion-engine BMW X5 is also available in China for the first time. Market launch is scheduled for 2027.
