Nikon unveils the NIKKOR Z 120-300mm f/2.8 TC VR S, the first constant f/2.8 telephoto zoom lens with a built-in 1.4× teleconverter, designed for sports photography.
Nikon Corporation announced the NIKKOR Z 120-300mm f/2.8 TC VR S, a telephoto zoom lens for full-frame/FX-format mirrorless cameras. The lens covers a 120mm to 300mm range with a constant maximum aperture of f/2.8, offering photographers versatility for indoor and outdoor sports. It is the first zoom lens in this category to include a built-in 1.4× teleconverter, enhancing flexibility without requiring additional attachments.
The lens delivers high-resolution performance comparable to prime lenses, ensuring sharp images across the frame. It captures fine details such as athletes' facial expressions and movements, producing immersive images. The built-in teleconverter extends the focal length to 420mm with a single action, maintaining superior rendering quality. Despite its advanced features, the lens weighs approximately 2,735 grams, making it lighter than comparable models.
Nikon highlights the lens’s suitability for low-light indoor events like figure skating and outdoor sports such as tennis and soccer. The reduced weight and integrated teleconverter allow photographers to respond quickly to fast-paced action, improving efficiency in the field. The lens is part of Nikon’s S-Line series, known for high optical performance and professional-grade build quality.
The company emphasizes its commitment to advancing optical performance to meet user needs in sports and action photography. Nikon continues to develop imaging technology, aiming to expand creative possibilities while supporting photographers in capturing decisive moments. The announcement reflects Nikon’s ongoing efforts to enhance its lens lineup for professional applications.
