The AI for Good Global Commission was announced by Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame, Salesforce Chair and CEO Marc Benioff, and ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin, uniting over 40 leaders from government, business, and international organizations to advance practical AI pathways. The Commission aims to strengthen trust, expand access, and unlock AI’s potential to address real-world challenges while ensuring participation from developing countries. The initiative builds on the ITU/UNESCO Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development, which previously shaped global priorities for connectivity and digital inclusion.

A key focus of the Commission is bridging digital divides, as 2.2 billion people remain offline, leaving one-quarter of the world disconnected from AI advancements. The Commission seeks to ensure AI becomes a tool for solving global challenges rather than deepening inequalities. The inaugural meeting will take place during the ITU’s AI for Good Global Summit 2026 in Geneva, Switzerland, from 7-10 July, as part of Digital Week, which also includes the first UN-mandated Global Dialogue on AI Governance and the WSIS Forum 2026.

The AI for Good Global Commission occupies a unique position by connecting leaders who develop technology, deploy it at scale, shape policy, and represent communities. The goal is to forge responsible AI solutions across sectors and borders while ensuring the participation of developing countries. The Commission emphasizes collective leadership and cross-sector collaboration to ensure AI benefits all people, everywhere.

The inaugural meeting aligns with the AI for Good Global Summit 2026, where global leaders will discuss AI governance and digital cooperation.
