New Study of 2,025 Agentic AI Leaders: First To Launch Isn’t Fastest to ROI
A Salesforce survey of 2,025 AI decision-makers finds that companies achieving ROI from agentic AI deployments prioritize data readiness and governance over speed, with average ROI reached in eight months.
A Salesforce survey of 2,025 global AI decision-makers reveals that companies deploying agentic AI systems are seeing measurable returns, with retailers using agents growing online sales four times faster than those that do not. Among the 30% already running agents in production, deployments reach ROI in about eight months, alongside a 53% employee adoption rate and a 29% average increase in customer satisfaction. The findings challenge the assumption that early deployment guarantees faster returns, instead emphasizing operational preparation as the key differentiator for success.
The report highlights that companies achieving meaningful ROI did not necessarily deploy agents first but instead focused on foundational elements such as clean, well-governed data and clearly defined agent scope. Salesforce’s Shibani Ahuja notes that organizations gaining real returns prioritized trustworthy data, human oversight, and preemptive guardrails over rapid deployment. The survey suggests that deliberate preparation, rather than speed, drives sustainable value from AI agents.
Salesforce’s Joe Inzerillo emphasizes that organizations do not need to perfect all data before deployment; instead, they can proceed use case by use case, ensuring data is accurate, mechanized, and semantically described. This approach enables agents to understand and utilize data effectively, unlocking value incrementally. The survey indicates that a semantic layer—rather than a complete data overhaul—is critical for enabling agents to function as intended.
Asymbl, a workforce orchestration company, illustrates the practical impact of this approach with its digital recruiter agent, Rosa. By integrating Rosa into Slack and leveraging Data 360 for centralized knowledge and MuleSoft for system integration, Asymbl hired 100 people in 100 days with 96% retention. The case underscores how targeted agent deployment, supported by clean data and existing workflows, can deliver rapid and measurable business outcomes.
