Samsung Showcases P9 and P7 SSDs Featuring USB4 at Gamescom 2026
Samsung introduced the P9 and P7 portable SSDs with USB4 at Gamescom 2026, offering up to 4,000MB/s speeds and capacities up to 8TB.
Samsung Electronics unveiled the P9 and P7 portable SSDs at Gamescom 2026 in Cologne, Germany, from August 26–30. The P Series targets professionals and general users with USB4 connectivity, doubling performance over previous models. The P9 achieves sequential read speeds up to 4,000MB/s and write speeds up to 3,800MB/s, while the P7 focuses on broad compatibility across devices. Both drives support capacities of 1TB, 2TB, 4TB, and 8TB, with global availability starting September.
The flagship P9 is the first 8TB USB4 portable SSD, enabling 12K direct recording for professional workflows. It supports large RAW image files and ultra-high-resolution video editing. The P9 received a CES 2026 Innovation Award for its performance and capacity. Samsung’s Vice President Tommy Kwon highlighted the growing need for faster, reliable storage amid AI content creation and high-resolution media demands. The P9’s speeds are roughly double those of the previous T9 model, which maxed at 2,000MB/s.
The P7 complements the P9 by offering fast storage for work, entertainment, and everyday use. It supports desktops, laptops, smartphones, gaming consoles, and cameras. Samsung states the P7 has undergone 2-meter drop testing and shock and vibration durability testing to protect data in mobile environments. The P7’s design prioritizes convenience and broad device compatibility, making it suitable for users with varied storage needs.
The P Series will be available in four capacities, with manufacturer’s suggested retail prices ranging from $289.99 to $2,699.99. The P9 starts at $339.99 for 1TB and reaches $2,699.99 for 8TB, while the P7 begins at $289.99 for 1TB and goes up to $2,289.99 for 8TB.
