Israel violates Lebanese airspace, kills over two dozen in Gaza in weekend strikes
UN agencies report Israeli strikes in Gaza killed over two dozen people and violated Lebanese airspace over 100 times despite ceasefire agreements, while humanitarian needs remain severe.
The United Nations reported that Israeli forces conducted airstrikes in Gaza over the weekend, killing more than two dozen Palestinians, despite ongoing ceasefire agreements. The strikes occurred in western Gaza, where over 2.1 million displaced residents are now concentrated. The Gaza Ministry of Health documented 150 fatalities in July, the highest monthly toll since the start of the year. Israeli authorities cited "serious security concerns" regarding a proposed disarmament roadmap, which Hamas had accepted under a US-backed plan.
UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq confirmed that Israeli attacks damaged Al-Aqsa Hospital and destroyed medical supplies, including WHO deliveries. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warned of critical shortages of medicines for chronic diseases such as insulin, cardiac treatments, and dialysis supplies. Essential infection control materials, including alcohol-based disinfectants, remain largely unavailable due to Israeli approval delays.
The World Food Programme (WFP) reported that four in 10 households in Gaza cannot afford basic food items despite increased aid deliveries. Nearly half of families surveyed had completely run out of food at home, with 22% experiencing this more than 10 times in the past month. A severe cooking gas shortage has forced many to burn hazardous waste or firewood, as black market prices are unaffordable and supplies last barely half a month.
The UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) documented 125 Israeli airspace violations in Lebanon over the weekend, totaling 418 hours of overflight time. Despite a 17 April ceasefire agreement, peacekeepers observed extensive military activity, including drone surveillance and troop movements near UNIFIL positions. Lebanese authorities report over 4,300 deaths and 12,200 injuries since Hezbollah joined the conflict in March.
