Volkswagen has launched the Tiguan EDITION 20, an anniversary model celebrating two decades of the brand’s compact SUV. The vehicle is available for order from today, with pricing starting at €48,180 for the 1.5 TSI engine producing 110 kW (150 PS). The special edition combines standard Life equipment with R-Line exterior elements and unique design details, including a newly developed Maple Red metallic paint finish exclusive to this model.
The Tiguan has sold over nine million units globally since its 2007 market debut, becoming Volkswagen Group’s top-selling model since 2017. Martin Sander, Volkswagen Board Member for Sales, Marketing and After Sales, emphasized the model’s role in the brand’s success, noting its versatility and practicality. All engines available for the Tiguan Life from 110 kW (150 PS) can be specified for the EDITION 20, ensuring broad appeal across the powertrain range.
The Tiguan’s origins trace back to the 2006 Los Angeles Auto Show, where Volkswagen presented the Concept Tiguan, a compact SUV with sporty and rugged design cues. The first-generation model debuted at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show, with the name ‘Tiguan’—a blend of ‘Tiger’ and ‘Leguan’ (German for iguana)—chosen via an Auto Bild magazine poll. The initial model featured a modern space concept, optional 4MOTION all-wheel drive, and multiple engine options, aligning with the growing demand for compact SUVs.
The second generation, introduced in 2016, expanded the Tiguan’s dimensions, improved comfort, and incorporated advanced driver-assistance systems. It became the Volkswagen Group’s best-selling model in 2017 and has maintained that position. The current third generation, launched in 2024, offers a redesigned exterior, a new cockpit with a large touchscreen, and powertrains including TDI, TSI, eTSI, and plug-in hybrid eHybrid options. Produced in Germany, Mexico, and China, the Tiguan remains a global success, available in over 60 countries.
