Widow’s Bay triumphs as most decorated freshman comedy in Emmy history

Apple TV secured 29 Emmy wins at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series for *Widow’s Bay*, marking the most awarded network of the year. The series also set records as the most decorated freshman comedy in Emmy history, sweeping major categories with 14 wins. Apple TV’s success follows its second consecutive year as the most awarded network, surpassing all other streamers in just seven Emmy seasons.

*Widow’s Bay* dominated the comedy categories, earning wins for Outstanding Lead Actor (Matthew Rhys), Outstanding Supporting Actress (Kate O’Flynn), and Outstanding Supporting Actor (Stephen Root), alongside Outstanding Writing and Directing. The series also led in performance wins, while Hiro Murai became the first Asian director to win in the comedy directing category. Additional wins included Outstanding Guest Actress (Betty Gilpin) and multiple technical categories.

Global drama *Pluribus* won Outstanding Writing and Outstanding Lead Actress (Rhea Seehorn), while spy thriller *Slow Horses* secured Outstanding Directing. Other Apple TV series, including *Margo’s Got Money Troubles* and *Palm Royale*, earned three wins each in costume, hairstyling, and makeup categories. The network also won Outstanding Documentary for *Mr. Scorsese* and Outstanding Commercial for Apple’s ‘I’m Not Remarkable’ campaign.

Apple TV’s dominance at the Emmys follows a record 89 nominations across 15 programs, with *Widow’s Bay* leading with 19 nominations. The network’s success builds on last year’s wins for *The Studio* and *Severance*, reinforcing its position as a leader in prestige television. Winners were announced at the Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony on September 14.
